[When grief really strikes you, it takes ahold of you, and it does not let you go. When you're really missing the person you lost, you don't ever really forget it. And Shiki had spent the past more-than-a-week grieving for Neku. Even though he hadn't died, he still wasn't with her, and it still hurt like all hell.

[It's much harder to take care of a turtle, even one who is actually the turtle form of your best friend, when he's not there. So when Shiki goes to the little aquarium she keeps Neku on his loss in and sees him not there... she's actually quite happy. His loss has to be over now! She's missed being able to talk to him.
